2nd November, 2009 Shafayet Khan PSY 101.01 General Psychology Current Events 2 I have been curious about this topic for age and now that I have some formal proviso I could relate all my curiosity to this article, ‘Spanking negative to children, study says’. Reading the article it is quite clear that ‘ tremendous children’ has proved to have serious psychological effects on them. One of the primary facts that the article provides is as follows: children who were spanked as 1-year-olds tended to unload to a greater extent than aggressively at age 2, and did non check as well as other children on a test measuring thinking skills at age 3. In class, we have discussed prenatal increments, infancy and childhood. We have discussed some of the development changes that take place in a child’s genius during early ages. We learned that the newborn’s forefront growth is most pronounced during a child’s early years. We have also studied Piaget’s explanations of the tetrad stages of cognitive development in a child’s brain. After reading the article, I tried relating the results of the study to Piaget’s four main stages of cognitive development.
The study shows that children who were spanked as 1-year-olds tended to give more aggressively at age 2 and did not perform as well as other children in intelligence tests. Piaget describes the age one to two being mountain of the sensorimotor stage and says that children experience the world through their senses and actions during this period. only if a child does not st art on using cognitive abilities until it ! has reached the concrete operational stage according to Piaget. I think the study strengthens current psychologists’ current views on Piaget’s theory of cognitive development that the development of cognitive abilities is more continuous which starts earlier.
